Have you had any of these “depressing” thoughts recently?
Why does my life hurt so much? I am sad all of the time. I feel hopeless. I just don’t want to get out of bed.
I feel overwhelmed all the time! I feel ‘stuck.’ It is so hard to make a decision lately.
I can smile on the outside, but I’m really crying on the inside.
I am so tired. I want to sleep all day. I can’t sleep at night. I can’t remember being happy.
I can’t find pleasure in anything.
I just want to be by myself.
I can’t concentrate.
Please don’t leave me alone.
Just leave me alone.
What is depression?
Depression can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 30 – 40 million Americans will suffer from depression or lingering sadness, but only 30% of depressed people will seek professional help. There is help through depression counseling, and I hope that you will choose it for yourself. Depression is a mood disorder that affects one’s thoughts, feelings, actions, relationships, and even physical health. Depression tells you that you are worthless. It feeds self-criticism. It can show up in irritability or anger. It can tell you that you are not good enough, that you are letting your family down. Have you been there? Are you there now?
Depression changes the way we perceive events and the way we feel about ourselves. When you begin to feel pessimistic, your whole worldview changes. You can probably feel that in your body. When we perceive events through the dark lens of depression, we feel worthless, guilty, and dissatisfied about life. This takes energy away from your relationships at work and especially at home with those you love and who love you. Have you been there? Are you there now?
Sometimes living hurts. These are the thoughts and feelings of depression, and they are literally helping keep you depressed or anxious. Through no fault of your own! It may feel like an endless cycle – the more depressed you become, the more your brain ‘tells’ you those thoughts, and the more you believe them, and the more depressed and anxious you become. Have you been there? Are you here now? There is help. And, I hope you will choose it for yourself.
I know that often it doesn’t feel like your brain is making this up. It feels physical. The internal experiences of depression are painful. But, I can help you change it, stop it with depression counseling and help you recover from it. Yes, you can recover. Not only is depression treatable but the results of counseling often last a lifetime!
Together, we will build hopefulness through depression counseling.
When I am with you in session, you will have my complete attention. I will want to know what this is like for you. How depression, sadness, worries, anxieties affects your life, your relationships, your dreams.
I have worked successfully for over 24 years with clients who have been depressed or anxious, and seek relief from emotional pain, and, I have seen how the work of depression counseling has helped restore hope and optimism. Like strengthening a muscle, this takes work, exercise, and practice. We can do the deep work together. We can safely explore underlying issues. We can start, now, to learn new coping skills, using cognitive therapy techniques proven to work so effectively.
You may still be in the questioning stage. Do I need depression counseling? Will this really help? How will this affect my family? Will by loved ones agree to help? Can I afford this? This is a natural stage and most people go through it.
What I know for sure is that you owe yourself a chance to feel better. To stop suffering unnecessarily. To get your energy back. To smile. If you have questions, please do call me for a free 15 minute phone consult, and then you can decide it you would like to make an appointment. I am here to help.
